Kathmandu. Indian tourists can now make payments through phonepe QR in Nepal from today. According to the understanding between Nepal's payment operator PhonePe and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), this service has started from Wednesday.
Under this, customers using Bhim UPI and PhonePe payment service provider platforms in India can make payments through QR in Nepal.
Indian users need to activate international UPI payments in the PhonePe or Bhim app to use this service. After this, they can scan the QR code on Fonepay when they come to Nepal for payment. The service charge for payment will be determined by the wallet and financial institutions themselves.
Until now, about half a dozen banks including e-service, Khalti, and wallets have been connected for international payments. These financial institutions will be able to receive payments from Indian service users through Fonepay QR codes for merchants.
Although Indian customers can now make payments in Nepal, Nepali service users cannot make immediate payments in India. For this, Fonepay is waiting for the approval from Nepal Rastra Bank. After receiving approval from the central bank, Nepali digital wallets and mobile banking apps will be able to make QR payments in India."
